An Evening in Cantonments

On the evening of 26 February 2026, Tiga Art Gallery welcomed guests to its space at Crystal Homes in Cantonments for an intimate artist talk with Gabriel Eklou.

The gallery filled with collectors, creatives, diplomats, and curious minds drawn together by a shared appetite for something real. What unfolded over the course of the evening was a rare kind of art event — one built on dialogue rather than spectacle.

"Africa is the beginning and the base of my work. Not as nostalgia, but as ground."

Gabriel Eklou was born in Accra in 1966 and spent his formative years moving between Togo, Benin, and Ghana. In 1995, he moved to France, where he developed his distinctive style — earth-toned compositions featuring characteristically shaped figures alongside Adinkra symbols and other cultural imagery.

The questions from the floor were searching, ranging from the technical to the philosophical. Guests asked how he achieves the luminous earth-toned surfaces that have become his signature, and what role traditional symbolism plays in his contemporary practice.

The evening marked a milestone for the gallery in its Cantonments space — a demonstration of the cultural programming ambition Tiga has been building toward.

A selection of Gabriel Eklou's work was presented during the evening. All pieces are available for private viewing and acquisition through Tiga Art Gallery.
